Omar Khadar;Canadian Government Missing in “Action”

Canadian citizen Omar Khadar is the last person from a western country to be held in Guantanamo Bay.Khadar who is now 20 years old has been held now for 5 years.

Unlike Australia the U.K and other countries allied to the U.S , who have had citizens detained ,Canada has yet to request or put pressure on the U.S government to send Khadar home to Canada.

That Harper would allow a Canadian citizen to go before an American military tribunal without a word of concern for his human rights, and his rights as a Canadian citizen is unprecedented.

No other Western country did or would have allowed such a thing to happen.

Harper seems to have forgotten, that his first obligation as PM is to protect all Canadian citizens and to ensure that their rights as such, are protected and respected.

His fawning ass kissing admiration of the “Commander guy” must take second place.

Hi,

It is indeed sad how Canadian citizens broad (particularly Muslim Canadians these days) can be abused by foreign governments and the Canadian officials do virtually nothing. There are Canadians being held in several other countries including China, but no effort from the Canadian brass to get them home. While I have a lot of criticism for US foreign policy, one thing I’ve seen over and over is that they will move mountains to get their people to safety. Witness the evacuation of Americans from Lebanon last year. Compare that to Harper’s reaction when Lebanese Canadians were killed by Israeli artillery attacks.

not only that witness the biased and bigoted response of a lot of ordinary Canadians at the time.

Taken into custody by US forces at age 15, Omar Khadar’s human rights as a minor have never been recognized. transfered to Guantanamo Bay in October 2002. he was subjected to interrogations over a three year period without access to a lawyer. No investigation appears to have been initiated into reports f toture and other ill-treatment. While a number of other child detainees were released years ago, Omar Khadar remians in detention under harsh conditions. Now he faces an unfair trial before a military commission. The possibility of being transfered to face a new trial before a civiian court in the USA seems remote. Other government, from Caanda, moves to protect the human rights of theri citizens by seeking their release and repatritation. But cananda has said that any action on behalf of their citizen in Guantanamo is still “premature”!!! Canada must immedaitely make a persisitent effort to repatriate Omar Khadr. If there is a sufficient evicence, arrange for a fair trial before a Candian Court.

Instead of worry about the “rights” of this little pissant traitor, why don’t we focus on winning the war? Oh, I know, this is a post created by a graduate of chickenshit high school.

Comment by bob hotch

Hey Bob,we can win the war and protect our citizens,no matter your opinion of Omar Khadar he still has the same rights as every other Canadian citizen and I would hope that our goverment would not let our rights be denied by a foriegn country.how is Omar any different?

Comment by rob mccullough

First of all this misunderstood youth is protected by the youth criminal justice act in Canada and it is illegal for you to mention his name or identify him in anyway. second of all this little misunderstood youth threw a grenade and killed a soldier in a mult-international force that Canada was a part of, so in essence he attacked Canada, And even in Canada he should be up for the death penalty for treason. Also his misunderstood brother should be aswell, and since he was put in a wheelchair while fighting against the people of canada, i hope he isnt living off the welfare and health care systems he so desperatly wants to destroy, At very least lets show some spine and revoke citizenship and let the people he fought with take care of him.

it is indeed sad to know how people can pass judgement on other people without considering their side of story. khader committed the crime when he was 15 years old. no kid at that age knows clear difference between right and wrong, especially if you involve religious factor in it too. kids of afghan descendents learn this thing from their ancestors that america is their enemy and they are not that wrong, considering what US has done to their country. that’s why this kid was brain washed to commit that crime and it was a war like situation in which he killed that american soldier. i think that we should consider these facts before charging him because after all he was just a kid then. and many kids at teenage kill other people as well like in gang clashes and stuff. so why should he be any different. moreover it is his right to be prosecuted with a fair trial at his own country. think of this case by being a human first and then muslim or american or canadian.

Comment by aden

If he was not caught and detained he would still be killing even Canadian soldiers in afganastan.
So let them keep and try him where he is.

mr harper –get this young man home.We can deal with him in Canada. At the very least our methods are more humane, or at least would hope so . he was a boy soldier doing as he was told.
what the consequences be if he disobeyed orders. he had an obligationto look after himself. Even you would do that

“We canadian demand his release from so called terrorist charges”

Comment by A Alam

Hey the fact is he shed his childhood when he threw that granade, he at that momment was no longer a youth or minor, he commited a violent act, and should be treated as an adult. He has rights that is true, but his rights are for basic human rights outlined by teh U.N. and he has no rights that are protected while outside of Canada, I say let him stay where he is, he is a threat to my security, to my childrens security, and to every other Canadians security…..people will be screaming if he was not caught by the US, and he returned to Canada, and plotted and even killed a Canadian becuase of his ideology…so STFU you libreal screwups!!!!

Do not add me to that “WE”…you should read on other blogs….there is about a 99% of other Canadainas not supporting to bring this individual back to Canada….so not not say “WE”, have the balls to say “ME”.

Yes it is sad that passing judgment is not what we as a people view our fellow man…but hey he is in detention so he can be judged for his own actions….oh might I remind you..ACTIONS speak louder than words, he is being judged on that alone. If I stole a candy from a store would others think I am a thief? Let Khadar face his punishment and let the chips fall.

I hear everyone calling Omar Khadr, the former child soldier. First was Canada at war and was he defending his Country. How many others has he killed that we don’t know about including Canadian Soldiers. Secondly, how many more Canadians are presently Child Soldiers? Maybe we should be evaluating all the Islamic Families who are teaching their children these practices, as they should be charged with child endangerment. See what the uproar would be if the Canadian Government went into Islamic homes and assess what the children were being taught. Finally, how is the Khadr family earning an income in Canada presently? Oh, they will be suing the Canadian Government for the torture he incurred by the Americans.

15 year old kid who’s dad wasnt a good man. And now Canada is hardcore by letting him stay there! Harper is a cow, a filthey old cow, one of the worst canada has ever seen. Poor kid, roughest life, nothign we can even think of, and its all because Harper doesnt want to offend his best and only firend bush….screw both of them!

There would be only one reason for bringing Khadar back to Canada. If the members of the Canadian government pledged upon their soul (and even more severely to resign without their fat rest of their life guaranteed income pensions) to vigorously prosecute this terrorist for treason for taking up arms against Canada and our US allies in time of war and vowing on their pensions to prosecute him vigorously to the full extent of Canadian law and hopefully eventually be able to display the head of this pork eating son of a thousand fathers head on a stick. Kadhar’s responsibility was to take up arms for his so called country and given his opportunities of association inform on or kill the enemy Muslim terrorists. Any failure to do so made him no Canadian at all

Comment by Ralph Mellish

I couldn’t agree with you more. I believe that you negate your rights and freedoms as a Canadian when you take up arms against our allies.
