As far as trying to hold lobbyist’s more accountable, that is…
With the creation of a lobbyist registrar that actually has some teeth and the authority to conduct investigations so as to insure lobbyist’s are in compliance.
Under legislation passed last week, Alberta’s lobbyist registrar has the power to conduct investigations “necessary to ensure compliance” with that act. And, during the course of such investigations, he’ll be able to “summmon and enforce the attendance of individuals” and compel them to “produce any document” or “give oral or written evidence under oath.”
Got to give the Alberta Conservatives credit where credit is due.
Now if only the B.C Liberal Government would back up their absurd claim…
that it’s the most open and accountable government in Canada.
With action, while sparing the good people of B.C the double talk.
Recent happenings on the B.C politicking front clearly illustrate, yet again, that such legislation is needed.
But then they are trying to get elected…
When I first heard Craig Chandler was nominated to be the Conservative(Alberta) candidate for Calgary-Egmont I was stunned.
Below is an example of the intolerance and stupidity the little “man” is capable of.
The following quote was taken from a letter sent out by the “Concerned Christian Coalition”, which was founded & headed by Mr Chandler. At the time Chandler was CEO of the group and was aware of the letter.
“Homosexual Agenda Wicked,” which suggested gays were as immoral as pedophiles, drug dealers and pimps. The Canadian Human Rights Commission had Chandler agree to post a letter of apology on his website last January.
Although such nonsense seems to be shared by many conservative right-wing types, one need only visit the Blogging Tories to confirm that observation.
Even Chandler’s views were a bit to much for the Alberta Conservative Party.
Alberta’s Progressive Conservative party has refused to endorse the nomination of a candidate who founded a group linked to an anti-gay letter
Every bit helps I suppose, even when it comes from the Conservative Party of Alberta.
That said…
What this matter says about internal party democracy, and the types of members the party is attracting to it’s ranks(never mind nominates, yikes) is another story, albeit an important one.
I know if I were a member/supporter(god-forbid),I would be very concerned.
