Yeah we know Mr Tory,law & order,yawn…..

Since the beginning of the dispute in Caledonia, my colleagues and I in the PC Party have been unwavering in our argument that the rule of law must be respected and upheld. Quite simply, actions must have consequences.

Not to deny the role of law and order or it’s importance Mr. Tory….

But the application of force of law is not always the end all, that can or should be applied to all situations.

Where some see flagrant violations of “law & order” by the Mohawk in Caledonia.

Others see Mohawk actions as a response to flagrant violations of agreements and principles between them selves and the government.

In short Mohawk actions were a direct consequence of government inaction, years worth.

So I agree Mr Tory, action [or in this case inaction] must have consequence.

But to be fair [Ont Conservative leader] John Tory did get it this right…

when there are legitimate grievances, which I’m sure includes a good number of native land claims in the province, the government takes those seriously, and diligently pursues a solution before people feel the need to break the law.

Exactly…

Indeed it was this lack of government seriousness, respect for past agreements and their unwillingness to sit down with the Mohawk and negotiate in good faith. That finally forced the Mohawk to step up the pressure.

As it was from the beginning the only solution to the crisis is for the government to get serious, work with the Mohawk Nation and negotiate a mutually acceptable resolution .

I believe they call that leadership.

It is almost criminal that McGuinty’s Liberal government has allowed this crisis to reach the point it has.One which pits Mohawk & non-indigenous communities against one another, often across the racial divide.

So no Mr.Tory the solution is not to send in the police nor give them a free hand…

The police must be allowed to do their jobs independently and free from government influence. This also means that the government cannot direct the police not to do things such as enforcing court orders or making arrests.

The time has come to step back from the brink and begin real & meaningful dialog.Further alienation of one side by the other serves no purpose.

Governments are suppose to lead not pander to the mob mentality.
